This very special Shelby Mustang GT500KR "King of the Road" is one of 1,053 models produced. Only 530 of those were equipped from the factory with a 4-speed manual transmission like this specific model.



Shelby's Mustang GT500KR was the ultimate Ford pony car in its time, sporting one of the most powerful V8s, the Cobra Jet 428, and intricate aerodynamic changes for its era. It offered many improvements that classified it as the 'King of the Road' Cobra. A redesigned front end, hood and rear end, with 1967 Cougar taillights, were manufactured out of fibreglass to reduce the overall weight. It also added a front-strut brace, wider rear brake drums and shoes, an 8000-rpm tach, a 140-mph (225-km/h) speedometer, and a rollover bar. The exterior was also equipped with an SMC fibreglass hood with a functional ram-air scoop, grille-mounted Lucas fog lights, a rear spoiler, sequential taillights, and air scoops on the sail panels and quarter panels.



This GT500KR features a Wimbledon White exterior colour with Blue Stripes and immaculate condition Black Vinyl upholstery and Black interior. The car sits on 10-spoke 15" Shelby Cobra wheels. The cabin features front bucket seats and a Sport Deck rear seat trimmed in black vinyl with knitted inserts. The Interior Décor Group added woodgrain trim to the dashboard, center console, and door panels. A roll bar with inertia-reel seatbelts was standard in Shelby cars, and additional equipment includes a Tilt-Away steering column, an AM radio, and a Cobra Jet dash badge. The Visibility Group included under-dash courtesy lights and illumination in the glovebox, trunk, and engine compartment. The dash panel features a Carroll Shelby signature. A Hurst shifter that was removed from the car is included in the sale.



The 428ci Cobra Jet V8 has had a replacement block installed in the late 1960s and features cast aluminum valve covers with "Cobra Le Mans" lettering. A Holley four-barrel carburetor was installed in August 2016, and a complete engine-out service has been performed in December of that year, including the installation of new engine seals. The replacement engine block has a date code of 9E27, which translates to May 27, 1969. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission that was removed from the car and resealed in December 2016. A 3.50:1 Traction-Lok differential was fitted from the factory.
